A man selling bread sells half of what he has plus half a loaf to his first customer. He sells half of what remains plus half a loaf to his second customer. He sells half of what is left plus half a loaf to his third and last customer, and has no bread left. He never has to cut a loaf of bread. How many loaves did the man have to start with?

7 loaves...........3 1/2 + 1/2 = 4.........leaving 3..........1 1/2 + 1/2 = 2...........leaving 1.........1/2 + 1/2 = 1
